MSL-1011
Foundations
of Officership is a one credit hour class designed to introduce students
to the fundamentals and traditions of the US Army. NO MILITARY OBLIGATION
IS INCURRED by taking this class. The class includes First Aid/
Lifesaving Techniques, Rifle Marksmanship, and Rappelling. By the
end of the course, students will have built leadership, self-confidence
and learned valuable management skills associated with large businesses
today. Students will also be knowledgeable on marksmanship and firearms
safety. Students will also gain a better understanding of what it
means to be an American Citizen and realize the sacrifices made
by those that came before us on behalf of our freedom. Enrolling
in MS 1011 opens the door of opportunity for entry into the ROTC
Advanced Course the Junior year and possible commission as a Second
Lieutenant in the US Army.
1011. (1 00 1 1) Foundations of Officership develops
self-confidence through team
study and activities in basic drill, physical fitness, rappelling,
first-aid, basic rifle marksmanship, and making presentations. Fundamental
concepts of professional leadership in both classroom and outdoor
laboratory environments. One 8-week session for one credit hour.
Also required leadership lab and optional (but encouraged) participation
in 1-hour physical fitness session. (F)

Basic Leadership
1021.(1 002
1) Basic Leadership develops self-confidence through physically
and mentally challenging exercises with upper-division ROTC students.
Individual and group communication skills and organizational ethical
values for effective leadership. One 8-week session for one credit
hour. Also required--leadership lab and optional (but encouraged)
participation in 1-hour physical fitness session. (S)

Individual Leadership Studies
2032.
(2 003 2) MSII-Self/Team Development Learn/apply ethics-based leadership
skills that develop individual abilities and contribute to the building
of effective teams of people. Develop skills in oral presentations,
advanced first-aid, land navigation and basic military tactics.
Learn fundamentals of ROTC's Leadership Assessment Program. Activity/lecture
two hours per week. Requires enrollment in Leadership Laboratory,
MS 2030. Participation in weekend exercises is optional for those
students not on ROTC Scholarship. Prerequisites: both MSI courses.

MSL-2042
Leadership and Team-work
Military
Science 2042 is the continued study of the styles of leadership
and it's practical application. Much more time is spent in the development
of the operations Order and it's practical application in planning
event driven training. Student's begin to take an active role in
the chain of command as their abilities increase. Subjects taught
during this course year include:
- First
Aid
- Patrol Bases
- Navigation Skills
- Terrain Analysis
- Leadership styles
- Communications: Written, Hand & Arm, Oral, Electronic
- Conduct of the Raid and Attack
- The Troop Leading Procedures
- Proper conduct of rehearsal
- Counseling
- The NCOER and OER system

(1 181 1-2) Military History Special topics in military history.

Leader's
Training Course
2091-6.
(2 009 1-6) MSI/II Leader's Training Course. A four-week summer
training event conducted at Fort Knox, KY. The student receives pay. Travel,
lodging, and most meal costs are paid by the Army. The environment
is rigorous, and in some ways similar to Army Basic Training. No
military obligation is incurred. Open only to students who have
not taken all of the basic course completion requirements, and who
pass a physical examination (paid for by ROTC). Completion of basic
camp qualifies a student for entry into the Advanced Course. Three
different cycles are offered during the summer, but spaces are limited
by the Army. Candidates can apply for a space any time during the
school year prior to the summer. Arkansas State University will
grant up to six
hours of elective credit for successful completion of the ROTC Basic
