Spring Military Ball a Big Hit

The Spring Military Ball is an opportunity for cadets to interact in a social, more relaxed setting.  This year's ball was great.  Everyone that attended had a great time.  The highlight of the night was the traditional humerous slide show presentation of photos of cadets and cadre throughout the year.  The MSIIIs also entertained with a very funny stand up comedy act.  Following the meal and entertainment, the dj started rockin' and everybody started dancing.

Cadet Maxwell Receives Coveted Marshall Award

Cadet Aeriel Maxwell recently represented Arkansas State University ROTC as the winner of the 2004 George C. Marshall Award.  The annual award is presented to the most outstanding cadet in the Army ROTC Program at ASU and is named in honor of Army General George C. Marshall, who served as the chief of staff of the Army and secretary of both state and defense.  He was the author of the restorative Marshall Plan and was the only career soldier to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.  Maxwell was selected for her professional excellence, leadership, personal integrity and selfless service to the nation.  Over 200 cadets from around the nation received the prestigiuos award and participated in the conference.

Cadet Campbell Elected as New SGA Senator

Cadet Jason Campbell was recently elected as the new Student Government Association senator, representing the Department of Military Science.  He is a History major and plans to get his commission within the next two years and enter active duty.  The ROTC senator is the voice of the entire program.  People hear about the ROTC program through his participation in Student Government Activities.

Cadets and Cadre Visit Shiloh Civil War Battlefield

ROTC cadets and cadre recently enjoyed the Fall weather at the Shiloh Civil War Battlefield along the Tennessee River.  Cadets are exposed to military history and must be prepared to discuss the particular battle.  The staff ride is an annual event.

Cadre and Cadets Host Leadership Experience for Graduate Students from the ASU College of Business

The ASU ROTC cadre and cadets recently hosted the leaders reaction course for the graduate students from the ASU College of Business.  Approximately 50 students got an opportunity to "test" their leadership skills.  The course was designed to place cadets and students in stressful situations and evaluate their leadership skills while dealing with many obstacles and challenges.  Master Sergeant Michael Guyton says "The students appeared to enjoy the event.  The teamwork displayed was outstanding."  Since the completion of the leaders reaction course in 2001, over 200 students have been exposed to the military style of leadership through the ASU ROTC program, including students from Russia.  During the Spring semester our cadets have an opportunity to try out the course as well.  Corporate America pays big bucks to put their leaders through events such as this.  Students exposed to this type of leadership opportunity should leave with more confidence in their ability to lead, as well as develop ideas on how to implement team building skills in their own groups.

Cadet and Cadre Invited to Guest Coach Volleyball Match Against Southeast Missouri State

CPT Tim Durham, MSG Michael Guyton and Cadet Gary Dockins pose with the Arkansas State Lady Indian Volleyball Team after their victory against Southeast Missouri State University on 16 September.  The three ROTC representatives were invited to be guest coaches during the game.  CPT Durham says "I'm definitely a fan of A-State volleyball now".  ROTC tries to support other organizations on campus as much as possible.

Cadet and Cadre Post National and State Colors at 7th Annual Order of The Tribe "Pep" Rally

CPT James Dunivan (Armor) rappels from the top of the Convocation Center (Basketball Arena) with the National Colors in tow.  As the colors descended, the crowd bursted into a thunderous roar.  Cadet J.W. White rappelled with the State flag.

The Order of the Tribe is an annual "pep" rally that pays tribute to the athletes and helps develop a sense of pride and excitement around the university.  ASU ROTC is proud to be a part of this event.  There were approximately 2000 students and faculty present for the event.
CPT Dunivan and Cadet White present the colors to the crowd while the National Anthem is sang by the university choir.

Fall Ice-Breaker a Big Hit With Cadets

CDT Ross serves up a winner during a volleyball game held at the Fall ice-breaker.  The ice-breaker was a winner too, as all of the cadets appeared to thoroughly enjoy the comraderie and social interaction with one another.  The cadet ice-breaker is an annual event held the first week of the Fall semester.  It helps the veteran cadets get back into the "swing" of things and allows the newer cadets an opportunity to get acquainted and feel like part of the family.  The event was highligted by an awards ceremony to recognize NALC graduates and summer training graduates, and a contracting cermony.  Volleyball, basketball, horseshoes, football, and good food were also enjoyed by all.
